The search engine market. Is Google actually the king of the web?

There is no doubt search engines have become an integral part of our everyday lives, but which one dominates the online search engine world? Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, Baidu and even, DuckDuckGo and WolframAlpha, are just a few. There are many search engines on the market, but not all of them have the same popularity and not all are used in the same way.

Let’s have a look at the most used search engines in the world:

mobile searches

The first place on the podium goes to Google.

No surprise here, of course. The Mountain View based search engine does not need any introduction. Used by more than 70 percent of the world’s population, it is undoubtedly the most widely used search engine in the world. Every minute, 2 million searches are carried out simultaneously by about 1,800,000,000 unique monthly users all over the world.

Second place to Bing.

The Microsoft search engine, was created to counter Google’s market dominance. It has less than a third of Google’s number of unique users, or 500 million a month. However, over the years it has managed to carve out an important slice of the global market, amounting to around 7.3%.

Third place on the podium Yahoo

The Yahoo web portal of internet services including a search engine, mail, messenger and chat, powered by Bing to offer another alternative to Google. Although the search engine has a market share of around 5%, it is one of the most popular email providers.

Other search engines:

Ask is a portal mainly based on a question and answer format, and can be very useful for these types of searches since the content created by the users of the community have been indexed by the search engine. As for the generic results the quality is lower than Google, Bing and Yahoo.

It is the reference search engine in the East especially in China where it holds 76% of the market against 22% of  Google’s.

The main search engine in Russia with a 65% share.

To conclude:

Although these search engines have different characteristics and often give different results, they have one thing in common. If you search for “what is the best search engine?” in either of them, the answer you get is the same; Google.

Content Marketing: The Importance for Companies

What is content marketing?

Content marketing is a marketing activity that involves the creation of editorial content and subsequent online sharing in order to drive qualified traffic to a website. Content marketing ultimately generates interest in a company’s products or services.

Why is Content Marketing important for effective digital marketing strategy?

In 1996, Bill Gates said: “Content is the king… Content is where I expect much of the real money will be made on the Internet, just as it was in broadcasting…” Although more than 20 years have passed, this statement is truer now than it ever was.

Why has content marketing become increasingly important over the years?

  • The creation of original and quality content is a fundamental SEO factor for the positioning of a website on search engines.
  • Using keywords related to the products or services allows one to be positioned more accurately in search results thereby reaching users directly as they search for relevant products or services.
  • By writing informative content and promoting one’s own knowledge of the sector, it helps to reach the target audience and demonstrates one’s expert knowledge and experience in the subject.
  • By sharing content such as blog posts, articles, videos, and ebooks on social networks or other websites, they create an effective means both for promoting the brand and for generating backlinks to the company website.

How can one create an effective content marketing plan?

  • Goals
First of all, one needs to understand what the business and marketing objectives are. Subsequently one needs to understand which marketing objectives to achieve through a content strategy.
  • Audience
To create content that can be useful and interesting for users, it is important to have an idea of the target audience. We need to identify typical profiles based on age, habits, status, and hobbies. Once these characteristics are determined it will be much easier to create interesting content.
  • Plan topics
It is not enough to have a general idea of what topics are of interest to users. One also needs to plan them both in terms of content and in terms of timing. For example, content for a hotel in London, could include information about travel within the UK or the interesting things to do in London. The frequency of the publication should also be considered. (example; one blog post a week, one or two videos a month, etc.)
  • Publishing channels
The methods of publishing content may differ according to whether using articles or other content such as e-books, videos, etc. The main publication channels are websites, blogs, YouTube and social media channels.

Finally, it is essential to rely on professional content writers. Expert copywriters are able to create high quality content that can engage, entertain and generate positive results.
